Ian "Iron Ian" Grant

ABS Senior Coach | Irish National Team Athlete
Ian Grant—better known on the platform as Iron Ian—is a mainstay in Ireland’s strength scene, and a coach whose presence speaks louder than hype ever could. With roots that go back to Flyefit in 2017 and even earlier as a pro wrestling coach from 2006 to 2014, Ian brings nearly two decades of coaching insight to the ABS floor.
He first joined ABS Powerlifting in 2019 after competing in the very first ABS Series. The discipline, the standards, and the unforgiving nature of the platform hooked him instantly. By 2022, Ian earned his place as an ABS coach—where he's now helping shape some of the most competitive lifters in the country.
Ian has a unique blend of deep technical understanding and hard-earned life experience. His background as both athlete and coach has taken him to international stages, representing Ireland in the u93kg class at the 2023 and 2024 Western European Championships. On the coaching side, he’s guided standout athletes like Keira Loftus, Eveline Coman, and Shauna Rahaman—most recently taking Eveline to her first Nationals at just 18, where she claimed victory in the stacked u69kg class.
Known for his grounded, data-backed approach, Ian doesn’t do copy-and-paste coaching.
“Everything is powered by data but driven by experience,” he says. And that experience? It's real. This is his full-time job, his community, and his mission.
Whether it’s mentoring upcoming coaches, pushing national-level lifters, or calling out depth in the warm up room, Ian shows up with intent.

Who He Works With
Ian works with all levels of ages and levels and is currently one of the busiest coaches within the Irish powerlifting scene.
