ABS Coach | International-Level Coach | Paralympics Ireland Selector
Shannon Pollock—aka Shann Poll—is a cornerstone of the ABS coaching staff, known for her sharp eye, steady presence, and unmatched ability to develop lifters from scratch to international stages. She first joined ABS in 2014/2015 as an athlete, hooked by the energy of strong women like Louise Kenna, Anna H, Linh, and Hazel, and the no-bullshit atmosphere Jay built around the platform.
By 2016, she stepped into the coaching role officially—and never looked back.
With over 13 years of coaching experience (8+ in powerlifting alone), Shann’s impact goes far beyond spreadsheets. She’s built national champions, international competitors, and hardened lifters across all levels—from junior to masters. Notable names under her wing include John Slattery, Daniel Docherty, Lota Leinburga, Linh Nguyen, Caoimhe Ireland, and Marion Kearns. Her proudest coaching moment? Seeing Paul Hearne promoted in the ABS Series after executing a flawless meet.
As an athlete herself, Shann understands the cost behind every rep. That’s why her coaching isn’t just about performance—it’s about the person.
“I care more about the lifter than the result. And I’ve lived every level of it—from the first comp to the world stage.”
Outside of ABS, Shann is a High Performance Project Manager, a Coach Developer with University of Limerick, and sits on the Para Powerlifting selection committee under Paralympics Ireland. Her certifications and credentials speak for themselves:
-
BSc in Biochemistry & Microbiology
-
IPF Coaching Cert
-
Precision Nutrition L1 & L2
-
MNU Certified, OPEX L1, and more.
She’s also a new mom, a full-time professional, and a volunteer S&C coach. Still, she makes time—always—for her lifters.
To train under Shann is to train under someone who’s done the work, paid the dues, and stayed in the fire long enough to shape champions.
Who She Works With
Shannon works with all types of lifters, from first-time beginners to international athletes, with a strong track record across junior, open, and masters divisions. She has extensive experience coaching female lifters, particularly post-pregnancy, and provides a supportive yet high-standard environment for long-term growth. In addition to her role at ABS, Shannon also coaches with Sport Ireland, further deepening her impact in the national strength and conditioning space.
