About MARK COMISKEY

ABS  Coach | Irish National Team Athlete

Mark Comiskey brings a unique combination of MMA experience, competitive powerlifting and high-level strength & conditioning coaching to his athletes. He began strength training at 15 and discovered Mixed Martial Arts at 18, eventually building an 11–4 amateur and 2–0 professional MMA record while training under legendary coach John Kavanagh. His own experience as a fighter gave him first-hand insight into the physical demands of combat sports and the importance of developing strength, speed, power and resilience alongside technical skill.

Mark went on to become Head Strength & Conditioning Coach at Straight Blast Gym Ireland, where he worked with some of Ireland's leading professional and amateur MMA athletes, including Pedro Carvalho, Brad Katona, Luka Jelčić, Katie Saull and Will Fleury. His coaching philosophy is centred around using strength and conditioning to fill the physical gaps in a fighter's preparation, allowing them to become stronger, more explosive and more resilient without compromising their technical development.

Mark is also an experienced ABS Powerlifting Coach and competitive powerlifter. His continued involvement in competitive powerlifting gives him a practical understanding of strength development, programming and competition preparation from both sides of the platform. In 2026, Mark was won Best Lifter at the IrishPF National Master Championships, establishing him as the current No.1 ranked Masters lifter in Ireland.

Combining years of experience in the weight room with first hand experience in both the cage and on the powerlifting platform, Mark brings a practical, performance-focused approach to every athlete he works with.

Who MARK Works With

Mark works with MMA fighters, combat athletes and powerlifters from beginner through to elite level. For fighters, his coaching focuses on developing the physical qualities that allow them to express their technical skills at their highest level, including strength, speed, explosive power, conditioning and resilience.

For powerlifters, Mark works with athletes looking to build strength, improve technique, develop effective training programmes and prepare for competition. Whether an athlete is taking their first steps into strength training, preparing for their first competition or competing at the highest level, Mark takes an individualised approach based on the athlete's experience, goals and the specific demands of their sport.

Mark works with athletes both in person from Dublin and online worldwide, providing strength and conditioning coaching for both powerlifting and MMA. This allows athletes to access Mark's experience and coaching regardless of their location, with programmes and support tailored to their individual needs and goals.
